ABOUT BADAGRY:
FOUNDATION:Fouded in 1425 AD and was founded by a farmer whose farm strectched across the lagoon called Agbede.Agbede's farm covers the island and along the coast of the badagry lagoon.Agbede in Egun language implies Agbedegreme but this was laterly changed into Agbadarigi by the Yoruba alien of the south west nigeria and later to Badagry by the European slave dealer and Missionaries when the coast of badagry was discovered.
LOCATION:Located on the south-west of Lagos statein Nigeria.
BORDER: The bight of Benin republic to the west and Ogun state of Nigeria to the North.
CUSTOM AND RULERSHIP:Divided into Eight quarters with heads, the heads were the chiefs right from the begining of rulership in badagry.Only a male descendant is entittled to the post.
RELIGION AND BELIEF:before the begining of christainity in 1842 and islamic religion, the main religion of the people were different type of traditional religions and beliefs which is still existing till date but people has chosen to embrace christainity and islamic religion that the fore religion with about 65% christain, 30% islamic and 5% traditional religion.
LANGUAGE:The main language of the people is EGUN language & Yoruba language of the south-western region of Nigeria and the Lingua franca (ENGLISH LANGUAGE)
STRUCTURE:Mainland and Island.
PAST EVENTS:slave trade occured in badagry in the early 16th century to the late 18th century (for about 300 years) by the european slave dealer and this has made the town a tourist attraction where tourist from all over the world visit every day. MOBEE OLUSEGUN S.
